Google is conspiring with Verizon to kill net neutrality. I don’t think that the terms of their agreement has yet been released, but the very nature of the agreement kills the internet as we know it. Now we all get to pay extra to watch YouTube videos at a decent clip.
What doesn’t make sense is Google’s involvement. Isn’t the search business compromised by a deal like this? This isn’t simply a case of promoting some results. Relevant results might suffer from lower bandwidth because they aren’t covered by Verizon. Since they load up slowly, people will simply move on to other results that may be less relevant rather than wait. This screws up your rankings and inevitably kills the validity of search. Then Microsoft wins.
